Quran Scholar & Islamic Jurist
Shaykha Umm Jamaal ud-Din (Mouna Parkin) brings a deeply personal and transformative relationship with the Qur’an to her teaching. Raised in a Christian household, with her father serving as a lay preacher, and once closely connected to music, her journey to Islam marked the beginning of a deep and enduring connection with the Qur’an. After commencing her Qur’anic studies at Dar Al Huda Institute in Jeddah, she went on to receive an ijazah in the recitation of the Qur’an according to Ḥafs ‘an ‘Āṣim, and devoted over twenty years to completing its memorisation—while also helping her five children to complete their memorisation. Her recitation is also available on qariah.app, a platform dedicated to female Qur’an reciters.
Alongside her Qur’anic journey, Shaykha Umm Jamaal holds a Master’s degree in Fiqh, a Bachelor’s degree in Fiqh and Uṣūl, and a Bachelor of Arts in Languages with a major in Arabic, having studied traditional Islamic texts with Arabic-speaking scholars for decades. One of the first three qualified female scholars to become members of the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), she has spent over twenty years teaching Qur’an and Sharīʿah in Sydney. Driven by a passion for reviving hearts and homes through knowledge, she has recently launched a new online learning platform for sisters, expanding access to structured Qur’an and Sharīʿah studies across Australia and beyond.
